Anthropic has started moving pieces behind the scenes for a potential public debut next year, according to a new report from the Financial Times. The company has tapped Wilson Sonsini, the go-to West Coast law firm for major tech listings, to begin preparing for an IPO.

The timing would be significant. Anthropic’s valuation has exploded to an estimated $350 billion, making it one of the most sought-after private AI companies in the world. A public listing would give investors their first real shot at owning equity in the companies driving the generative AI boom that kicked off with the arrival of ChatGPT three years ago.

The company is also projecting massive growth. Internal forecasts referenced in recent reporting show Anthropic targeting around $70 billion in revenue and roughly $17 billion in cash flow by 2028. If those numbers hold, the race between OpenAI and Anthropic to go public first just got even more interesting.
