Apple $AAPL ( ▲ 0.53% ) is finally getting its AI Siri moment.

It is just not getting all of it at once.

A new report from The Information says Apple is staggering the rollout of its revamped Siri, with the Google Gemini-backed version expected to begin launching this spring, while several of the more ambitious features Apple teased back in 2024 may not arrive until summer.

Siri Gets a Gemini Brain (Starting This Spring)

Thanks to Apple’s new partnership with Google $GOOGL ( ▼ 1.65% ) , Siri’s upgrade is expected to roll out this spring.

The near-term focus is pretty straightforward: Siri should finally be able to answer general questions with ChatGPT-like responses, instead of:

  • quoting random website snippets

  • dodging the question completely

  • or sending you down a rabbit hole of links like it is 2014

So, yes, Siri might finally be able to act like a modern assistant instead of a voice-controlled FAQ page.

The “Actually Smart Siri” Features Are Being Pushed to Summer

According to The Information, some of Siri’s bigger, more personalized AI features may not arrive until summer, potentially being unveiled in June at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

These include the proactive assistant features Apple previewed in 2024, like:

  • remembering past conversations

  • using prior context to make suggestions

  • anticipating needs, such as telling you to leave early for a trip to beat traffic

This is the version of Siri Apple has been promising for years: less search tool, more real assistant.

But it looks like Apple is breaking the launch into phases instead of shipping the full package immediately.

Apple’s ChatGPT Button Is Staying (But Might Matter Less)

The report also notes Apple’s existing OpenAI integration is not changing.

Apple’s partnership with Microsoft $MSFT ( ▲ 1.78% ) -backed OpenAI lets Siri hand off complex questions to ChatGPT, and that option will remain.

However, the Gemini-powered Siri could reduce how often users need to tap into ChatGPT, since Siri itself may be able to answer those questions directly.

The Information also reported that the ChatGPT option has not driven much traffic to OpenAI so far, citing a person familiar with the deal.

Bottom line: Apple $AAPL is rolling out the Gemini-powered Siri this spring, but the more advanced “personal memory + proactive assistant” features look like they are being delayed until summer, turning Siri’s AI reboot into more of a slow drip than a big-bang launch.
