Archer Aviation $ACHR ( ▲ 4.92% ) is expanding its air taxi ambitions to South Florida, naming Miami as the latest city slated for its future eVTOL network. The company already has New York City and Los Angeles in the queue, and Miami now rounds out the trio of planned US hubs.

The goal is to link key pockets across the region with 10 to 20 minute hops, connecting spots like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. Archer also wants to give travelers fast transfers between the area’s big three airports: MIA, FLL, and PBI.

To prep for the rollout, existing heliports at Hard Rock Stadium and the Apogee golf club will be upgraded for electric aircraft. Archer is also working with development partners to build new vertiports throughout the region.

Certification remains the big hurdle. Its Midnight aircraft still needs FAA approval, and delays in the UAE have raised questions about the US timeline. Still, the company has been laying groundwork by lining up defense contracts and buying key real estate, including Los Angeles’ Hawthorne Airport.

Archer CEO Adam Goldstein has said he expects defense to out-earn commercial air taxis for years, but Miami gives the company another major launchpad once regulators sign off.
