Trump Media $DJT ( ▲ 41.93% ) surged after announcing a $6 billion all-stock merger with fusion energy startup TAE Technologies, a pairing that instantly became a contender for the strangest deal of the year. The company behind Truth Social will provide up to $200 million in cash at signing, with another $100 million unlocked once the Form S-4 filing is completed.

From Social Media to Fusion Reactors

The combined company says it plans to begin construction in 2026 on what it calls the world’s first utility-scale fusion power plant, targeting 50 megawatts initially, with future plants expected to scale to 350–500 megawatts. If successful, the deal would create one of the first publicly traded fusion energy companies.

Markets React First, Questions Come Later

Shares of Trump Media jumped as much as 30% in premarket trading before paring gains, still holding above a 20% increase early Thursday. Investors are clearly intrigued, even if the leap from social media to fusion energy raises more questions than answers.
